Local favorite and internationally acclaimed Clint Maximus gives me a peak into the life of a DJ.
How do you find the DJ life? Is it as glamorous as it seems?
DJ life is good, you get to experience new cultures, meet new people and taste some of the best food ever! Is it glamorous? It can be but having said that it can also be very demanding.
Do you have any rituals you perform in preparation for an event? Has being a DJ imposed any other rituals/ quirks on your lifestyle?
Rituals? Nah. Sorry to disappoint, the only thing I do is just a have a beer in hand before going up! Although it can play nasty with your sleeping habits.
What type of music do you play? Is it also you personal favorite genre?
Right now anything house. I don’t really believe in limiting yourself to one style because styles change all the time, ask another famous DJ/producer around the world they’ll say the same thing. But when I’m out and about in a club I do tend to lean more on progressive house.
Do you use CDs, Vinyl, or MP3s? Why?
Well I buy a lot of MP3s from Beatport (Almost every few days) and whenever I get tracks from the record labels (Anjunadeep, What Happens records etc, etc…) it’s always MP3’s. I do have a massive vinyl collection from back in the day but now the internet is the best way to get music, straight onto CD after that! Plus it’s lighter to carry.
How do you get your crowd going?
Usually I just look at the crowd and see how they react, what gets them moving.
What’s your crowd like? What kind of following do you have?
I don’t believe I have a crowd, I’m just there to make you happy (nothing else). In terms of a following I do a international dance show called ‘The Edge’ which has listeners from all over the globe like Turkey, Cyprus, Little Lebanon, UK, USA, Seychelles, Greece, Spain, Australia, Canada etc… so I get plenty of nice feedback on Facebook and Myspace. Plus that opens up a lot of doors for gigs.
What was your favorite or most memorable gig? What was your least?
I think one of my all time favorites has to be Castle Club Ayia Napa; had a lot of fun and the reaction from the crowd was just spot on. Right now I’m taking a break from gigs because I have to focus on the show (The Edge) but I have plenty in the pipeline.
Where can you normally be found or heard?
I’ve stopped all local club gigs to concentrate again on the show (The Edge) so right now you can hear me on Radio One 105.5 every Friday from 9pm and any of the above countries.
What other activities do you engage in within the music world?
Plenty of press releases with artists; for instance Solarstone used my last interview as part of his press kit worldwide for his album Rain Stars Eternal and Max Graham used the interview I did with him in his highly acclaimed podcast, plus I review a lot of new tracks for artists and sample them on the show, so pretty busy all in all.
