• Holy ghost: Literary scholar Archbishop Georges Khodr hopes to change the Lebanese youth through example and published lectures.
• Twinkle, twinkle: I’ve always had an overactive imagination, and scaring myself half to death with, say, a mental image of Willie’s teeth and bubbling stomach was apparently insufficient. I had to give him a glowing, red eye.
• My Bin Laden: Charbel Khalil made his name by finding Bin Laden, straightening out politicians and comically dismissing the country's leaders; something he still doesn't regret, even if it almost started a war.
• Damn the stage: Rabih Mroue believes that Lebanese theater is a thankless, sadistic mistress; and success takes time and plenty of passion. Not to mention an aversion to money.
• Kababster: Architect Maroun el Daccache attempts to define the Lebanese style, not in the least through the incredible office building I was welcomed in. For me though, it's all about Kababji.
• Cotton candy: Zena el Khalil doesn’t create; she reacts to Beirut. Take the mind of a war-child, mix in the memories of an immigrant, and season with pink. Lots and lots of pink.
• Special Olympian: Who would have thought that a Lebanese would bring back an Olympic medal? Edward Maalouf knew it all along; he only wishes his government appreciated it a bit more.
• Dirty Diana: Our eyes locked and he let out a menacing squeak. I lunged at him, and he was gone before I landed. The hunt was on.
• Seed of Zicco: Zicco House is much more than just the poetry readings and concerts at the Samra Bar: it's a launch-pad for the country's most prominent movements, and has become a hub for thinkers and dissidents who dream of change.
